Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog’s second act debuted about an hour ago. I’ve absolutely loved it so far and I am excited to see the conclusion on Saturday! There are ton’s of reviews out and about on the net and I don’t care to congest the tubes with my own, but if you haven’t been watching you are going to want to hurry it all disappears on the 20th.
I’ve been thinking alot about writing and trying to be a little more creative. I used to write all the time, I ended up looking through tons of my old papers last night trying to find a story to share with a friend of mine. It is kind of weird rereading all of it. There we’re short stories and novels that I had started writing and tons of verse that I spat onto paper in fits of emotion. I need to put this stuff someplace safe to I can look back on it.
I have been writing down some ideas about a project I’ve been calling The City. I really don’t know what kind of story it is or really anything about the plot. I just have a very clear image of the setting. It takes place in this dystopian city. I can’t really describe it in too much depth every time I try to it comes out childish and contrived. I close my eyes and I can see it so clearly, the dark sky, cobblestone streets, the factories, I can feel it too, what it would be like to live there, the madness of it; But the why of it has escaped me so far. Why does this city exist; what is its importance? I think if I continue with the story I would like to present it at as graphic novel. There is just too much visually going on for me to describe in words. With all of this online media I think it might be a fantastic medium, of course I wouldn’t mind publishing it with Evil Ink along side The Amory Wars.
I have also been tossing around the idea of finding an illustrator to draw up some concept art. I have such vivid images and I’d like to have them realized regardless of how far I actually take this project. Amanda’s brother has been painting and i’ve been told it is rather fantastic I might ask him to draw for me. If any of my readers are interested or know anyone who is I would love to sit down and talk to you about some ideas.
eeePc as a Portable Office
Gahhh foiled again! I went down to the Westbury store today to pick my eeePc that their inventory says they have instock, but they don’t actually have any. My plan is to use it to set up a completely mobile office. I want to see if I can do everything that could be done at work or home while i’m on the train or a coffee house or even at the park. I really think it’s possible and I think it will be pretty easy. I’ll be picking up the eeePc shortly (might have to wait a week while it gets shipped to me) in the meanwhile I am trying to brainstorm some ideas of what exactly I want to do I’ve got a few things.
- Connect to my home and work computers
- Edit, build, maintain webpages,
- Skype phonecalls w/video and bluetooth.
- Boot Backtrack for security auditing
- Manage all my online activities, twitter, facebook, my blog, email, torrents.
- Switch from using Installed applications to Portable Applications whenever possible.
I am sure I’ll come up with more stuff most of this is very easy. If you would like to see any other features write me at SRKos@aol.com
Userbar Fun
So I spent a good portion of the night finding a bunch of userbars. For anyone who doesn’t know what they are they are standardized images that people have been putting into their signatures on message boards, they range from describing applications that the person might use, to interests or video games they may like. I saved a bunch that i’m going to add to my webpage when I finally get it up and running, but there we’re some things I just couldn’t find them for so I created them over at The Userbar Designer which is a easy to use tool that helps create basic userbars, you can even add some animation to them. Here are some that I made.
Each one of these are clickable and will take you to their respective homepages. The Digsby one is my favorite I think the icon looks really good, i’m putting it up on the digsby boards because some other people we’re looking for it. Alright, night time. I’m going to be playing with these a little bit more so if anyone wants a specific one let me know!
Welcome Home
So I’ve finally moved my blog onto it’s own server. The port seems to have worked out pretty well, I changed themes, this one is pretty nice, doesn’t have my Aurora picture that my old one had but nonetheless the fog and water is pretty soothing. I’ll be putting a message on my WordPress.com Blog that points to here.
I spent the last two days playing with my N810. So far I have trained it to scan the network it is connected to for vulnerable computers and give me a list of the exploits that could be run on the system, (it could also run those exploits to bind shell accounts to those hosts, but I will be setting up a personal laboratory for that work). I am working on getting it to crack WEP encrypted networks, and i think I have it working except its going to take somewhere around 10 hours for it to break my tester network. Because the device doesnt offer a method for packet injecting I need to wait for a certain amount of information to be sent over the network and collected before it can attempt to crack the key. I believe that there is a modification I could add that will allow me to do packet injection from the N810 but it’s going to need a little more research to see if its actually viable. When i’m not port scanning networks for holes I can play Doom, Quake, Galaga, as well as update my blog, and complete countless other web chores. I still haven’t decided if I’m going to keep the N810 or return it.
Well i’m going to go watch lost and get some sleep.
Music Database, A Real Guitar Hero
I have been spending my time on some various projects, the most rewarding of which has been my Online Music Database. Through the miracle of Jinzora I have begun hosting if a website that will allow anyone to stream my entire music collection to their speakers. Currently I am hosting this server off of my laptop but I will be transferring it to a separate machine once I have it built. The results have been slightly mixed but all in all very positive.
This project came about because of complications at work regarding our music listening habits. We have been using Pandora a program which takes your favorite artists and songs and compiles your own personal radio station that plays your favorites plus new music that has a similar sound. It is quite a remarkable way to find new music and I can list atleast five new bands that I have been introduced to since starting my free subscription. (If you would like to hear what’s been ringing inside my ears check it out: Haen Radio.) The trouble is that the use of this station has been getting so popular that the company I work for has been ordering it’s employees to refrain from using it. At the current time we can still access the site but we are sure it’s address will be added into the internet proxy banned list. So I created my personal music database with streaming content, and so far i’ve been enjoying it greatly. The link is located down the side of my page, feel free to sign up and send me some responces on what you think.
I also wanted to share this amazingly talented musician I just stumbled upon Justin Kingfrom Eugene, Oregon has one of the most original guitar styles I have ever seen. This video has completely blown me away and his debut solo album “Le Bleu” is just as outstanding. Take a look and if you see him coming around near you, catch him on tour.
